Krankhaus by Angelspit

There really is something fun and different about early 2000s music, isn't there? I especially find myself drawn to a lot of the goth rave culture from that time, maybe because I play with a pair of old cybergoths almost every weekend. Angelspit released their debut album Krankhaus in June 2006 and it was a smash hit. The album was self published and was picked up by acts like Combichrist for their remix tracks, a huge start!

The album title comes from the German word Krankenhaus, meaning "hospital", which suits the album. This aggressive electronic album has medical themes woven into it throughout from the use of medical terminology in Vena Cava to the psych feel of 100%, though I wouldn't necessarily say this feeling persists into the second half of the album where it starts to pull in some interesting more folk-y kind of sounds in tracks like Flesh Stitched onto a Frame where they use what, to me, sounds like a balalaika. Still, don't let that deture you. The album starts hard and it keeps that feeling throughout the entire experience. Initially they were a band where I wasn't too sure about them, but now that I've given them a chance, I don't know what took me so long to take the plunge.

The track list is as follows:
